Description
Jeffrey Record will explore the characteristics of successful insurgencies. Record contends that the crucial aspect for successful insurgencies is external support and he will explore this in the panel “Why Insurgencies Work.” David Ucko (The New Counterinsurgency Era) will also examine the counterinsurgent response to the insurgent strategies and tactics of today. Ucko has written extensively of the US military cultural evolution to address the insurgent threat. The panelists will examine why seemingly overmatched forces often hold an advantage against numerically and technologically superior forces. They will explore the successful characteristics of historical insurgencies and their application in irregular warfare today.
